Support for Those Affected by the Ukraine Crisis
Dear gLoBaL ERG members,
On February 24th Lab Director Mike Witherell sent out a heartfelt message to the Berkeley Lab community regarding the situation in Ukraine. We, the steering committee of gLoBaL ERG, are deeply saddened and horrified by the loss of life and suffering in Ukraine.
We understand that many of our Lab members have family and friends in Ukraine. Please do not hesitate to reach out to gLoBaL ERG’s Steering Committee at global-sc@lbl.gov to voice your concerns. Comprehensive counseling services are available for Lab employees, families and dependents, through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) as well. These services are voluntary, confidential, and free of charge.
On Thursday, March 24th at 12 noon, in conjunction with gLoBaL ERG and the All Access ERG Mental Health Initiative, the IDEA Office will hold a forum facilitated by Craig Mielcarski, Director of Be Well at Work. More information and the Zoom link for the forum can be found here. We invite everyone to join and learn how we can support our colleagues, people of Ukraine, and ourselves.
If you would like to support the people of Ukraine, here are some resources:
Nova Ukraine, a Bay Area non-profit group that has been sending humanitarian aid to Ukraine since 2014, is calling for monetary donations to obtain materials that will be shipped to Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees.
CARE is raising money for its Ukraine Crisis Fund, which will provide immediate aid including food, water, hygiene kits, support services and direct cash assistance.
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is calling for monetary donations that will go into emergency supplies, care and protection to Ukrainian refugees.
Additionally, if you know of any more resources please let us know so we can share this information with gLoBaL ERG members.
gLoBaL ERG stands with Ukraine. gLoBaL ERG stands with the people of Russia who are also indirectly affected by this war and are peacefully fighting to end it. If you are from the areas affected by this conflict and want to talk, we are here to listen. If you have colleagues from affected areas please reach out to them and lend them a helping hand.
In solidarity,
gLoBaL ERG Executive Sponsor Sudip Dosanjh
